Institute of Petroleum Technology (IPT) Karak

The Institute of Petroleum Technology (IPT) Karak is a landmark initiative by the Government of Pakistan, funded under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) at a cost of Rs. 2+ billion, with the Energy & Power Department via Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Oil & Gas Company Limited (KPOGCL) overseeing its execution. Approved by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP), IPT Karak is envisioned to become Pakistan’s first state-of-the-art petroleum institute offering internationally accredited technical education and certifications in oil, gas, and energy disciplines.

Vision & Purpose

IPT Karak was conceived to:

  • Bridge the skills gap in Pakistan’s petroleum sector by producing highly specialized technicians and engineers.
  • Enhance domestic oil & gas production through advanced training in drilling, seismic technology, and reservoir management.
  • Boost foreign exchange reserves by creating professionals capable of working on modern drilling rigs (projected to repatriate Rs. 3.5 billion annually).
  • Support Pakistan’s energy security by aligning with projects like TAPI Pipeline, Aramco’s Gwadar Refinery, and LNG expansions.

Key Features
